Banding paper
Paper bands are sure to hold your product together. At the same time, banding paper can be easily opened anywhere. Bands made from high-quality paper can be printed exactly as you require – just like film bands: printed in advance for a maximum promotional effect through Branding with Banding or printed with specific product information during banding – or both combined. Our paper bands are also available FSC certified.
Banding paper - Material overview, attributes and application examples
TruePaper is an environmentally friendly, ultrasonically and heat-sealable paper band. TruePaper is made of at least 95% pure virgin fiber paper, can be recycled in the normal paper cycle and is suitable for direct contact with food.
- The sustainable paper band is suitable for all product types and sizes. TruePaper can be sealed with ultrasonic and heatseal technology.
- TruePaper consists of optionally virgin or more than 50% recycled fibers and can be recycled in the normal paper cycle.
- Printed ATS bands are grade AA certified to BRCGS Packaging Materials Global Standard. The raw materials comply, among others, with the restrictions of the FDA.
- TruePaper is also available with FSC certification.
- The recycling code is used to identify various materials for return to the recycling stream. TruePaper can be marked with recycling code 22 (PAP).
- TruePaper contains a water-based bonding agent that can be sealed with ultrasonic and heatseal technology.
- The tensile shear strength (sealed joint) of TruePaper is comparable to conventional banding paper coated with PP.
- TruePaper is compliant with Directive 2019/904/EU on reducing the impact of certain plastic products on the environment.
- TruePaper is compliant with the circular economy law Loi AGEC that came into force in France in 2022.
- TruePaper is compliant with the Circular Economy Law 7/2022 (Ley de Residuos y Suelos Contaminados para una Economía Circular), which came into force in Spain in 2022.
- TruePaper is suitable for ultrasonic sealing, which is significantly more energy efficient than conventiona heatseal technology.

Material attributes
PW is a bleached, paper that is coated on one or both sides with a thin layer of PP, depending on the banding technology used. PW provides a very good print image in flexographic printing. It is also very well suited for just-in-time printing using thermal transfer printing. The paper used for PW is made from 100% fresh fibers. PW is considered a mono-material in most countries and can be recycled in the paper stream. PW is also available with FSC label. Partially coated paper or TruePaper are generally used for applications where the bands must not contain more than 5% foreign material.
- For ultrasonic machines (e.g. US-2000 AD)
- available in the widths 15 mm, 20 mm, 30 mm, 40 mm, 50 mm, 60 mm, 75 mm and 100 mm. Other widths on request.
- available in the grammages 70 g/m2 to 90 g/m2. Other grammages on request.
- For heatseal machines (e.g. ATS-MS 420S)
- Available in the widths 20 mm, 30 mm, 40 mm and 50 mm. Other widths on request.
- available in the grammages 80 g/m2 to 250 g/m2
- Available in grammages from 80 g/m2 to 250 g/m2.
- Can be printed with up to 12 colors in flexographic printing process.
- Suitable for banding machines with Ultra-Sonic and Heatseal technology.
- PW is resistant to moisture.
- Especially suitable for food packaging.

PB is an unbleached, uncoated force paper, which is coated on one or both sides with a thin layer of PP, depending on the banding technology used. PB is rarely printed using the flexographic printing process, but provides a good print image. It is also well suited for just-in-time printing using thermal transfer printing. The paper used for PB is made from 100% fresh fibers. In most countries, PB is considered a mono-material and can be recycled in the paper or cardboard stream. PB is also available with FSC label. Partially coated paper or TruePaper are generally used for applications where the banderoles must not contain more than 5% foreign material.
- Available in widths from 20 mm to 100 mm.
- Available in grammages from 80 g/m2 to 120 g/m2.
- Can be printed with up to 12 colors in flexographic printing process.
- Suitable for banding machines with Ultra-Sonic and Heatseal technology.
- Force paper is the paper grade with the highest strength.
- Especially suitable for printing and manufacturing.

Material attributes
Partially coated paper (PW or PB) is only coated with a varnish at the point where the ultrasonic welding takes place. Partially coated paper provides a good print image in flexographic printing. It is also well suited for just-in-time printing using thermal transfer printing. The paper used for partially coated paper is made from 100% fresh fibers. The proportion of foreign material is less than 5 %. Partially coated paper is therefore considered a mono-material in all countries and can be recycled in the paper stream.
- Available in different widths and grammages. On request.
- Printable with up to 12 colors in flexo printing process.
- Suitable for banding machines with Ultra-Sonic and Heatseal technology.
- Especially suitable for applications where the plastic content of the packaging is to be reduced or completely eliminated.
