Fully automatic banding of small folding boxes instead of semi-automatic shrinking

20.01.2020

Request

A renowned copacker from the pharmaceutical industry wants to replace the semi-automatic shrinking stations at the end of three production lines with fully automatic banding systems. The declared aim is to reduce material, energy and labour costs. The demands on cycle rate and precision are high due to the three parallel running production lines.

Solution

The fully automatic banding machine US-2000 CLL turns out to be the solution that covers all requirements. It takes over the small folding boxes in a lying position, sets them up, forms stacks in the desired size and bands them with paper banding to protect the edges. With a 3-piece stack, the machine can band 24 bandings per minute, with a 6-piece stack 12 bandings per minute. With 72 packaged product units per minute, the US system keeps up with the speed of the packaging line.

Benefits

  • 11 % lower material costs
  • Around EUR 600 lower energy costs per week. Among other things, thanks to ATS' ultrasonic technology, which does not generate any heat and therefore places much less strain on the air conditioning system.
  • Thanks to intelligent automation, five employees can largely take on other tasks
  • Waste volume drastically reduced
  • CO2 balance improved
  • The payback period for the three automatic banding machines is less than 17 months
  • Particularly in the case of grouped packages, intelligent automation using ATS solutions can mean up to 70% lower handling and logistics costs. In addition, end customers such as pharmacies benefit from the simplest possible product handling: the tedious cutting of films with a knife is no longer necessary, the tool-free tearing of the paper band is sufficient.
